SCI paper compilation skills

Many friends in China can only translate in English if they want to submit to SCI journals after completing their Chinese SCI papers. However, many of them actually have average English skills, so they can only translate sentence by sentence, or they can only ask someone to help translate. Do you have any tips for completing the compilation of sci papers? In this issue, I will share relevant knowledge with you.

1. Pay attention to the special meaning of commonly used English words

The key to avoiding misunderstandings lies in the author's familiarity with English. The translation of SCI papers is basically accumulated over time, especially the meaning changes of some common words in medical contexts, such as: management intervention heterogeneity The most common in English The meaning of the word should be "diagnosis and treatment", "intervention", "heterogeneity", not "management", "intervention" and "heterogeneity".

2. Improve the level of English literature accomplishment

The core requirement of the translation quality of SCI papers is not English knowledge, but the author's own Chinese accomplishment and rhetorical ability! Thanks to the development of the Internet, new nouns are no longer the biggest difficulty in getting started with English, but why is it still so laborious to translate?

The two key points mentioned here are "subword" and "use sentence", the former is to tell the beauty of your words, negative example: "Previous studies" translated into "previous research" or "previous research"; positive example : "Evolution and Ethics" translated as "Evolution of Heaven". The use of a sentence means whether the meaning of the whole sentence is coherent and smooth, and echoes before and after. For example: "active monitoring and early catheter-guided treatment in the treatment of patients with increased intra-abdominal pressure", which obviously does not conform to Chinese grammar, it should be: "intra-abdominal pressure" Active Surveillance and Early Catheterization in Patients with Elevated Heights".

3. Pay attention to expression bias in translation

To judge the effect of translation, "strive for (or force) the smoothness of the words". Even if the grammatical structure is smooth and unmistakable in Chinese expression, there may be deviations in English. This is the difference in grammar between different languages, so we should focus on various languages in the translation process.

4. Avoid "spoken language"

For example, press releases, memoirs, professional newsletters, guides and writings, etc., when translating, you must pay attention to the application of tone. The newscast is the same as the broadcast script, and the translation of the commentary should be mature and composed... If the translation is in the same format as the original, then it is extraordinarily powerful to read, isn't it? One more point, don't change "case" to "one", "patient" should be translated to "patient"! In this way, the translation of SCI papers has an academic taste; "mortality" is often translated as "mortality" in Chinese, which is actually the biggest mistake, it should be "mortality"!
