Common mistakes in polishing English papers

What are the common mistakes in polishing English papers? In this issue, the editor has sorted out some common mistakes about the retouching of English papers for you to avoid lightning. I hope you can finish your papers smoothly.

  (1) Verbs instead of nouns

Those articles with large nouns are really difficult to understand, and sentences with powerful verbs are easier to understand. We noticed that the nouns often used by customers in their papers are "agreement", "disagreement", "investigation", "analysis", "examination", "comparison", "increase", "decrease", "improvement", etc. It will be easier to read and understand if these nouns are converted into corresponding verb forms.

  (2) Correct tense

When I was in graduate school, I was always confused about tenses in my thesis. So I'm not surprised to see that many clients' manuscripts don't use the correct tense.

Generally speaking, if you describe past behaviors, such as past research results, your own experiments and specific observations, the past tense is the correct usage.

  (3) Consistent terminology

Like tenses, this is also a problem. If you use many different ways of saying the same thing, you can easily confuse readers. Repeated use of the same words will not hide your language talent. It is important to let readers clearly understand what you mean.

For example, "signal", "electronic count", its abbreviation "EC", and "intensity" can all express the meaning of signal strength. Instead of using all these nouns, it is better to firmly choose one of them to express, which is more convenient for readers to understand.

Many times, when we write papers, we will enter a misunderstanding, thinking that we must use gorgeous words and advanced language expressions to write amazing papers. But in fact, perfect logic and clear expression are the most important. Good writing must put readers first, and your readers don't want to spend hours understanding your paper.
